Biographical Information[edit]
Ernie Smith played for the Baltimore Elite Giants in the dying days of the Negro American League. He served in the Marines and was later was a social worker and teacher. He coached basketball at the high school and junior high school levels for 30 years.
He was the first member named to the Wythe County (VA) Sports Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the Bluefield State Hall of Fame.
