Biographical Information

Vince Perkins was originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 49th round of the 1999 amateur draft as a draft-and-follow. He was not signed in 2000 due to a foot injury and entered the 2000 amateur draft, where he was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 18th round. He played one year of NJCAA baseball before he was signed by scouts Chris Buckley and Joe Siers as draft-and-follow with Toronto.

Perkins made his professional debut in 2001 with the Auburn Doubledays of the New York-Penn League, he would remain in Auburn for two seasons. In 2003, he split time between the Charleston Alley Cats (South Atlantic League) and the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League. He spent 2004 in the FSL and was put on the Blue Jays 40-man roster. In 2005 he played for the Eastern League's New Hampshire Fishercats, where he went 7-7 with an ERA of 4.03 and 111 strikeouts.

On April 1, 2006, Perkins was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays and subsequently claimed off waivers by the Brewers on April 12. Perkins underwent Tommy John surgery in May and was out for the remainder of the 2006 season. He split 2007 between Brevard County and Huntsville, going 2-4, 7.90 as he tried to regain arm strength.

Perkins was named to Team Canada for the 2009 World Baseball Classic and started Canada's second game against Italy; he was less than sharp, struggling with his control while giving up three runs in 2+ innings and bobbling two ground balls on defense.

He was a childhood friend of Oakland Athletics pitcher Rich Harden.
