Biographical Information[edit]

Víctor Castañeda has pitched in the minors and for the Mexican national team.

Castañeda went 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA for the Toros de Tijuana in 2017, then the Milwaukee Brewers signed him. The scouts were Jairo Castillo and Martin Arvizu. [1] He was 2-6 with a 5.13 ERA for the Helena Brewers in 2018, and he recorded a 2.16 ERA in 7 appearances for the Tomateros de Culiacan in the winter. Castañeda notched 6 saves with a 4.50 ERA in 32 relief outings for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in 2019, and he went 3-1 with a 1.99 ERA for the Glendale Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League. After the coronavirus shut down the minor leagues in 2020, Castaneda was 5-7 with a 5.20 ERA for the Timber Rattlers as a starter. He also pitched 3 games for the AAA Nashville Sounds, and his ERA was 2.25.

The Culiacan native improved to 4-6 with a 3.97 ERA for the Biloxi Shuckers in 2022, but his ERA rose to 5.14 in 3 starts for the Sounds. He then made it onto Mexico's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic, but he didn't pitch any games. The Brewers sent him to the Tampa Bay Rays as a Player to be named in the Javy Guerra trade, and he had a 6.75 ERA in 6 appearances for the Durham Bulls while pitching 3 games with a 3.86 ERA for the Montgomery Biscuits. Castaneda was 5-3 with a 3.53 ERA in Culiacan in the winter, then the New York Mets signed him to a minor league contract. He struggled with them as he was 4-2 with a 6.47 ERA for the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2024.
