Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Tyler Stohr played in the Detroit Tigers minor league system from 2008-2013.

Stohr was third-team All-State as a high school senior. He had a 1-3, 4.50 record for Army in 2006. Transferring to North Florida, he was 0-6 with six saves and a 7.46 ERA, tying for 5th in the Atlantic Sun Conference in saves. With the Hyannis Mets, he had five saves and a 2.08 ERA, tying for 5th in the Cape Cod League in saves. He was 3-2 with 10 saves and a 1.93 ERA as a junior in 2008. He led the conference in saves. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 6th round of that year's amateur draft - just ahead of Josh Satin and a few picks after Josh Harrison - and was signed by scout Steve Nichols.

He was 0-1 with 12 saves, a .224 average allowed and a 3.98 ERA in 21 appearances for the Oneonta Tigers in 2008, striking out 24 batters but walking 15 in 20 1/3 innings. On June 30 of that year, he tossed the final frame of a 7-inning no-hitter against the Lowell Spinners. He relieved Anthony Shawler, who in turn had relieved Dave Stokes. He tied Brandon Todd for 5th in the New York-Penn League in saves.

In 2009, he was 3-4 with 19 saves and a 3.54 ERA in 52 games for the West Michigan Whitecaps and his control was much sharper as he walked only one more in 40 2/3 more innings. He tied Matt Daly for second in the Midwest League in saves, 5 behind Brad Brach. He tied David Carpenter and Alexis Lara for 5th in the MWL in pitching appearances. Among Tigers farmhands, he led in saves and games pitched (6 ahead of Erik Crichton).

The next year, he was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in an injury-shortened campaign with the Lakeland Flying Tigers, a right elbow strain cutting his year short. In 2011, he was 1-2 with 3 saves and a 3.79 ERA in 44 games split between Lakeland (1-0, 3.45) and the Erie SeaWolves (0-2, 3 Sv, 4.21). He tied Chance Ruffin for 5th in the Tigers organization in pitching appearances. He was 1-0 with a 4.63 ERA for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League. Baseball America named him Detroit's #17 prospect. Returning to Erie for 2012, Stohr was 2-1 with a save and a 2.19 ERA and a .207 opponent average in 23 games. He was 3-0 with a save and 5.29 ERA in 36 games for Erie in 2013 to end his playing career.

As a scout, he signed John Bormann for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

His father is scout Keith Stohr.
