Biographical Information

Tyler Kuhn has played as high as AAA.

Kuhn was All-State in high school in 2003 and 2004. He hit .298/.345/.463 with 46 runs in 55 games as a college freshman and tied for second in the Big East Conference with six triples. In 2006, he improved to .365/.425/.504 with 59 runs and 50 RBI in 58 games. He was third in the Big East in both hits (92) and doubles (20). As a junior, his batting line fell to .332/.407/.483 and he had 52 RBI in 51 contests. He was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 33rd round of the 2007 amateur draft but did not sign. Kuhn produced at a .424/.462/.660 with 71 runs and 56 RBI in 56 games as a senior. He led the Big East in average, hits (101, the first WVU player ever to 100) and runs while placing second to Mike Spina in OPS. He was named the All-Big East shortstop, next to 2B Josh Harrison and 3B Chris Dominguez. He was 8th in NCAA Division I in average and tied for 12th in hits.

He was then taken by the Chicago White Sox in the 15th round of the 2008 amateur draft. The scouts were Mike Shirley and Phil Gulley. He made his pro debut that year with the Great Falls Voyagers and was superb, hitting .375/.424/.570 with 23 doubles, 9 triples, 51 runs and 46 RBI in 62 games. He led the Pioneer League in triples, was second to Roberto Lopez in average, was second to Lopez in OBP, was second in hits (96, 12 behind Lopez), ranked third in slugging (behind Lopez and Luis Jimenez) and fourth in doubles (23, behind Lopez, Jimenez and Brock Kjeldgaard). He was named the league's All-Star shortstop, joining Kjeldgaard, Jake Elmore and Jimenez on the infield, beating out Dee Gordon.

Kuhn split 2009 between the Kannapolis Intimidators (.299/.353/.371 in 58 G) and Winston-Salem Dash (.281/.320/.352 in 68 G), with 26 steals in 37 tries; he moved from shortstop to primarily left field. As a LF-2B for the 2010 Birmingham Barons, he produced at a .279/.345/.393 clip with 6 triples.

He spent the majority of the 2011 season with the Barons, for whom he hit .341/.401/.464 with 10 triples in 107 games; he batted .297/.327/.363 in 23 games for the Charlotte Knights after a late-season promotion. He led the White Sox chain in hits (168) and triples (11) as well as average. Despite lacking a set position (he played 20-33 games at each 2B, SS, 3B and LF), he was among the Southern League leaders in average (2nd, 7 points behind Scott Van Slyke), OBP (3rd, behind Paul Goldschmidt and Van Slyke), triples (3rd, behind Alfredo Silverio and Kevin Mattison) and hits (tied for 5th with Ryan Wheeler). He was not only named the Southern League's All-Star utility man, but also the All-Star second baseman (joining Goldschmidt, Wheeler and Tyler Pastornicky on the infield).

After spending most of 2012 with the AAA Knights (.272/.306/.391, 30 2B, 76 R in 126 G), his contract was sold to the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. He hit .264/.293/.431 in 23 games for the Reno Aces following the deal.
