Biographical Information

Pitcher Trent Blank played his college ball at Baylor University and graduated in 2012 with a degree in exercise physiology. He would later earn a master's degree in kinesiology from Dallas Baptist University. As a senior, Blank garnered All-American honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Louisville Slugger. He was also recognized as a semifinalist for both the Dick Howser Award and the NCBWA Pitcher of the Year. Blank was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 30th round of the 2012 amateur draft. He pitched in their organization for three seasons, reaching A ball with the Asheville Tourists of the South Atlantic League in 2013. In 2014, he had his best season for Asheville, going 5-0, 2.48 in 40 games with 4 saves, but never pitched professionally after that.

Blank began his coaching career as a Baseball Performance Specialist in 2015 with TMI Sports Medicine. In addition, he returned to college in fall 2017 and served as the baseball team's Director of Player Development while working on his master's degree. Both of these positions ended when Blank moved into professional baseball.

The Seattle Mariners hired Blank in 2019 as their Coordinator of Pitching Strategy. He remains in this role into the 2021 season. In 2020 the Mariners appointed him as the acting bullpen coach so that Brian DeLunas could work remotely due to COVID-19. Blank got the job on a permanent basis in 2021. He continued this dual role in 2022 though his title changed slightly to Director of Pitching Strategy. In 2023, he ceded bullpen coach duties to Stephen Vogt, but remained on the coaching staff as a Major League coach and director of pitching strategy. He retained this dual role in 2024.
