Biographical Information[edit]

OF Travis Swaggerty was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the 10th overall pick in the 2018 amateur draft out of the University of South Alabama. He had been a star there, hitting a rousing .356 as a sophomore in 2017 and also playing on the United States College National Team that summer. He was signed by scout Darren Mazeroski.

He began his professional career in 2018, playing on two separate Pirates affiliates named "West Virginia" but based in discrete cities in the Mountain State, the West Virginia Black Bears of the New York-Penn League and the West Virginia Power of the South Atlantic League. In 52 games, his batting line was .239/.322/.383, his numbers being depressed by batting just .129 in 16 games at the higher level. In 2019 he spent a full season in the Florida State League, with the Bradenton Marauders, where he batted .265/.347/.381 in 121 games, scoring 79 runs and stealing 23 bases as he displayed excellent speed as the team's regular centerfielder. His progression was temporarily stopped in 2020, however, as he was unable to play anywhere due to the minor league season being cancelled by the Coronavirus pandemic. Still, as one of the organization's top prospects, he was able to work out at the team's alternate training site, so the year was not a complete loss.
