Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Toshiaki Yamada played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 seasons.

Yamada was signed by the Mainichi Orions in 1953, but he only played 6 games for them then he jumped to the Takahashi Unions. He hit .251/.313/.304 in 1954, then he improved to .296/.354/.395 with 9 triples in 1955. He tied Bunjiro Sakamoto and Katsuki Tokura for 4th in triples in the Pacific League. Yamada was also selected into the 1955 NPB All-Star Game, and he was 0-for-2. He slumped to .203/.243/.307 in 1956, then he jumped to the Toei Flyers. However, Yamada only played 28 more games for the Flyers, and he announced his retirement in 1958. He passed away due to leukemia in 2001.

Overall, Yamada hit .251/.306/.334 with 290 hits and 16 triples in 6 seasons in the NPB.
