Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Tookie Spann played in the minor leagues from 1988 to 1993. He was drafted twice, originally by the Seattle Mariners in the 10th round of the 1987 amateur draft and then by the Detroit Tigers in the 3rd round of the 1988 amateur draft. He had been a star player at Tulane; 27 years after he finished there, he was still third in school history with 259 RBI, tied for third with a .476 OBP, 4th in slugging (.657), tied for 5th in average (.361) and 5th in homers (52). He also played defensive back on a team that played in the Independence Bowl.

He showed pop and occasional speed throughout his career. In 1989, he had 12 home runs and 11 stolen bases in 114 games between the Lakeland Tigers and London Tigers and in 1992, he hit 19 home runs with 103 RBI in 123 games for the High Desert Mavericks in the San Diego Padres system. He also stole 11 more bases in 1991.

In 490 games, he hit .254/.356/.417 with 54 home runs, 269 RBI and 38 stolen bases.
