Sebastian Antonio Campos Lopez

Infielder Tony Campos was the brother of Frank Campos. He played five years in the minor leagues, two years in the Cuban Winter League and also spent time in Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. Tony hit .208 for two clubs in the 1947 Florida International League, .264 for the Franklin Cubs in 1948 and .213 that same year for the Martinsville A's. The A´s won the title in the play offs and Tony was the regular short stop. He batted .254 with 5 homers for Martinsville in 1949. In 1951, he hit .258 for the Statesville Owls and .267 for the Granite Falls Graniteers. He moved to the Drummondville Cubs in the Canadian Provincial League in 1952 and batted .240/~.392/.323 and drew 99 walks, third in the league. He fielded .961, second among the league's regular second basemen. In 1953-54, he went 7 for 20 as a backup for the Almendares Scorpions; the starting infielders were Rocky Nelson, Spook Jacobs, Héctor Rodríguez and Willie Miranda, while Silvio Garcia also was on the bench. In 1954, he was with Williston of the Mandak League batting .289 with 6 homers. In 1955-56, he was 5 for 16 with a homer and six runs as a sub for the Cienfuegos club, backing up Bob Boyd, Curt Roberts, Milt Smith and Chico Fernandez. Cienfuegos won the title just as Almendares had two years prior, and went on to win the 1956 Caribbean World Series. In 1956, Tony hit just .206/~.279/.289 in 69 games for the Yucatan Lions. The next year, he was with Boer in the Nicaraguan League.

He also played pro ball in Colombia for Vanytor.

He died suddenly in Havana on the 29th of December, 2002. He was 77. In announcing the death on TV, commentators noted, "... he was a fine ball player and a very good friend of the sports press."
