Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Tonayne Brown played in the minor leagues from 1998 to 2005. He was initially drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 15th round of the 1996 amateur draft, one pick after first baseman Mike Hessman, but opted not to sign. He did sign after the Boston Red Sox took him in the 36th round of the 1998 amateur draft.

He began his career with a .316/.338/.511 slash line for the GCL Red Sox to begin his career (leading the Gulf Coast League with 71 hits) though he would never post such lofty numbers in affiliated ball again. He did, however, steal many bases (and get caught a lot). In 1999, he had 25 steals and was caught 22 times; the next year, he had 33 swipes and 13 interceptions; in 2001, he had 4 steals and was caught 12 times and in 2002, he stole 12 bases and was caught 16 times. He also hit 12 home runs that year, a career high. After a down year in 2003, Brown joined the independent ranks for 2004 and 2005. The former campaign, he hit .344/.374/.467 with 10 steals (13 CS) in 85 games; in the latter, he hit .313/.351/.416 with 11 steals (2 CS) in 92 games.

Overall, Brown hit .272/.323/.383 with 93 steals and 72 times caught stealing over six seasons.
