Biographical Information[edit]

Tomokazu Iba pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and the CPBL.

Iba was drafted by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the first round of the 2000 NPB draft, and he had a 2.53 ERA in 47 appearances in his rookie year. He was named their closer in 2002, and he notched 11 saves with a 3.77 ERA. He tied Hiroshi Shibakusa for 6th in saves in the Pacific League. However, Iba allowed 6 runs in 2 1/3 innings in 2003, and he was placed in the NPB Farm Leagues.

He came back in 2004, and he had a 4.83 ERA in 39 games. Iba then recorded a 4.79 ERA in 22 games in 2005, but he stayed in the ni-gun for the entire 2006 season then he was released. The Sinon Bulls of the CPBL signed him, and Iba was 9-9 with a 2.67 ERA in 2007. He ranked 3rd in ERA (between Wei-Lun Pan and Yu-Wei Hsu), 8th in strikeouts (between Hsien-Chih Chang and Chien-Fu Yang) and 6th in wins (tied with Hsu, Chun-Chung Huang and Alfredo González). However, his ERA rose to 5.88 in 7 games in 2008, then he was released.

Overall, Iba collected 15 saves with a 8-7 record, struck out 190 with a 4.16 ERA in 149 appearances in 5 seasons in the NPB. He was 10-12 with a 3.30 ERA, struck out 114 and pitched 171 2/3 innings in 2 years in the CPBL.
