Biographical Information[edit]

Tomohisa Ohzeki has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Ohzeki was drafted by the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks in the second round of the development phase in the 2019 NPB draft, and he spent his rookie year in the NPB Farm Leagues.[1] The young southpaw was a full-time reliever in 2021, and recorded a 2.35 ERA in 12 relief outings. Ohzeki joined the rotation to replace Yuki Matsumoto in 2022, and he soon became a solid starter. He was named the Pacific League starter for 2022 NPB All-Star Game 1 as a rookie, but he allowed back-to-back singles to Yasutaka Shiomi and Koji Chikamoto, then Shugo Maki hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run. He then retired Munetaka Murakami and Teruaki Sato. Taisuke Yamaoka relieved and the PL rallied to beat the Central League Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and missed two months.[2] He ended up 7-6 with a 2.93 ERA, and led the Pacific League with two shutouts. He got 10 votes for the 2022 Pacific League Rookie of the Year Award, finishing third behind Yoshinobu Mizukami's 177 votes and Shota Abe's 58.[3]

The Ibaraki native succeeded Kodai Senga to become the ace of the Hawks, and he was 5-7 with a 2.92 ERA in 2023, but only started 17 games due to various injuries.

Ohzeki's repertoire features a fastball that peaks at 94.4 mph, a forkball, changeup, curveball and a slider.
