Biographical information

Tommy Adams is a former minor league baseball prospect who played from 1991 to 1996 in the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers farm systems. An outfielder, Adams was drafted twice - first, by the Atlanta Braves in the 10th round (242nd overall) of the 1988 draft. The second time he was drafted he decided to sign - he was drafted by the Mariners in the second round (54th overall) in the 1991 draft.

He began his professional career in 1991 with the Bellingham Mariners. In 46 games with them, he collected 39 hits in 150 at-bats for a .260 batting average. He also hit 12 doubles, three home runs and he drove in 18 runs. Adams led the team in walks that year with 34 and being by a pitch with five. He was second on the team in doubles, with his 12 trailing the 14 Bubba Smith and Eddy Diaz both collected.

In 1992, Adams played in 111 games, splitting time with the San Bernardino Spirit (94 games) and Jacksonville Suns (17 games). Combined he hit .272 in 389 at-bats, hitting 13 home runs and driving 80 runs in. To add to his impressive power output, he also stole 21 bases. His 13 home runs and 75 RBI for the Spirit placed him first on the team in those categories in 1992. He also led the team in strikeouts. Adams placed second on the team in runs - with his 56 trailing Diaz's 80, doubles - his 21 trailed only Tony Kounas's 23, and he tied with Ron Pezzoni for second on the team in stolen bases - they both stole 20, while Diaz outpaced them with 33.

While with Jacksonville in 1993, Adams played in 61 games, collecting 64 hits inn 232 at-bats for a .276 batting average. He hit four home runs, drove 20 runs in and stole four bases.

Adams really slumped in 1994. He spent the majority of his time with Jacksonville (71 games), although he played a few games for the Riverside Pilots. Combined, he hit .231 in 79 games, hitting eight home runs and driving 22 runs home.

He played in 69 games with Riverside inn 1995, and in 30 games for the Port City Roosters. He hit .266 in 369 at-bats, belting 11 home runs and driving 56 runs in. He also stole 17 bases.

In an unknown transaction, Adams wound up in the Rangers farm system, and that is where he played in 1996, his final professional year. Playing for the Charlotte Rangers, he hit .257 in 53 games. He hit two home runs and drove 21 runs in.

Overall, Adams played in 449 games, collecting 419 hits in 1604 at-bats for a .261 batting average. Of his 419 hits, 91 were doubles, seven were triples and 41 were home runs. He scored 226 runs, drove in 217, walked 177 times and struck out 319 times. He stole 67 bases and was caught stealing 30 times, for a 69.1% success rate.
