Biographical information

Tomás Santiago reached AA in 2008, his final professional season.

Santiago was picked in the 39th round of the 2002 amateur draft by the Colorado Rockies. He debuted with the Casper Rockies, going 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 19 appearances. In 2003, Tomás went 1-4 with a 4.50 ERA for the Tri-City Dust Devils, getting into 21 games. During the 2004 campaign, Santiago had a 4-3, 3.57 record for Tri-City while moving into the rotation. He was 7th in the Northwest League in ERA.

In 2005, Tomás struggled with the Modesto Nuts, going 3-9 with 4 saves and a 5.02 ERA in 38 games (8 starts). He split 2006 between Tri-City (1-3, 4.30) and Modesto (2-2, 6.04, Sv) while battling right elbow problems. In 2007, he spent the full year with Modesto, going 2-4 with a 4.70 ERA and saving 8 games.

Santiago went 4-8 for the 2008 Tulsa Drillers, with a 4.42 ERA. He was on the Puerto Rican provisional roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic. He did not make the final cut. He did play for Puerto Rico in 2011. In the 2011 Baseball World Cup, he made three relief appearances, allowing two runs in nine innings. Only Julio Rodriguez had a lower ERA among Puerto Rican hurlers with 5+ IP. In the 2011 Pan American Games, he took the loss against Venezuela and got the save in the 7th/8th place game against Panama. He allowed 7 hits and 3 runs in 3 2/3 innings in that tourney.

Overall, he went 17-34 with a 4.51 ERA in seven minor league seasons.
