Biographical information[edit]

Julio Rodriguez played in the minor leagues from 2008 to 2015, then came out of retirement to make a few starts in the Porto Rican League in 2017-18. He pitched three seasons in AA but never reached the majors.

Rodriguez was picked by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 8th round of the 2008 amateur draft. He was 0-1 with 15 runs and 27 baserunners in 10 1/3 innings for the 2008 GCL Phillies. Returning to the same club in 2009, he improved to 1-2, 3.08 with a WHIP barely over 1 and 56 strikeouts in 49 2/3 IP.

Continuing to progress, Rodriguez was excellent in 2010 with the Williamsport Crosscutters (2-2, 2.65, .200 opponent average) and Lakewood BlueClaws (5-1, 1.44, .160 opponent average, 90 K in 56 1/3 IP). He joined the Puerto Rican national team for the 2010 Pan American Games Qualification Tournament and beat Colombia in round one, allowing one run in six.

He moved to the Baltimore Orioles organization in 2013, but was injured and only appeared in 7 games at 3 levels, with a combined ERA of 9.43. he moved to the Chicago Cubs and the Tennessee Smokies in 2014, but his ERA was 5.52 in 3 starts and he finished the year in the independent leagues with the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League. He pitched for two teams in the Can-Am Association in 2015 before retiring from professional baseball.
