Biographical Information[edit]
An owner of the San Diego Padres from 1990 to 1994, Tom Werner was part of the group, along with John Henry that purchased the Boston Red Sox for $700 million in 2002. He was appointed the team's Chairman.
Werner made his fortune as a television producer most famously of The Cosby Show and Roseanne. He has dated Katie Couric of NBC's Today Show.
In August 2014, he was identified as one of the three finalists to succeed Bud Selig as Commissioner of Baseball. he was seen as the candidate of the owners who wanted a departure from some of the practices of the Selig years, but these owners were in minority. After a number of rounds of voting at an owners' meeting on August 15th, Selig's deputy, Rob Manfred was elected unanimously as the next Commissioner.
