Biographical Information[edit]

While playing for the Nashville Vols of the Southern Association in 1916, pitcher Tom Rogers threw a pitch that struck John Dodge of Mobile in the head, killing him. An account of the incident states that Dodge had a habit of "running out into the diamond to meet a curve before it broke", but while Dodge was anticipating a curve Rogers threw a fastball. Dodge had previously been a teammate of Rogers. Three weeks later, Rogers threw a perfect game on July 11. Source: Nashville City Paper.

Rogers pitched four years in the majors without ever having a winning record, closing out his major league career with an appearance in the 1921 World Series.

He went 13-8 in 1922 for the St. Paul Saints, who won 107 games that year. In 1924 he was with the Memphis Chicks, going 18-9 with a team that won 104 games.

In 1929, Rogers was the player-manager for the Macon Peaches in the South Atlantic League. The team finished 69-79, in 5th place.
