Known primarily as a defensive catcher during a career that spanned twenty years, Prince has been a manager and minor league coordinator for the Pirates since 2004, when he managed the Lynchburg Hillcats. He was then manager of the Williamsport Crosscutters in the New York-Penn League in 2005 and 2006. In 2005, he took the team to the playoffs. His next assignment was manager of the GCL Pirates, a role her performed from 2017 to 2012. After spending the 2013 season as the Pirates' minor league catching coordinator, he returned to managing with the Bradenton Marauders in 2014 and then the Altoona Curve in 2015. With Joey Cora taking over as the Curve's manager for 2016, the Pirates assigned Prince to the position of minor league field coordinator. In 2017 he was named bench coach under Pirates manager Clint Hurdle. In 2019, he was interim manager for the final game of the season after Hurdle was fired. However, only a few days later, he was dismissed as well. Prince was scheduled to manage the Toledo Mud Hens in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to Covid-19.
