Biographical Information[edit]
Tom Lovelace appeared in one major league game, with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1922. He was a pinch-hitter in the 9th inning, lining out to second base, batting ahead of his teammate Rabbit Maranville. Also in the lineup that day for the Pirates were Max Carey and Pie Traynor, while the opposing team, the Brooklyn Robins, featured Zack Wheat.
Tom had played quite well in the minors in 1922, appearing in 82 games for the Dallas Steers and hitting .330, and also playing 64 games for the Greenville Togs with a .335 batting average. His minor league career ran from 1920 to 1932. In 1930 he hit .380 for the Canton Terriers, a team also featuring the 40-year-old player-manager Heinie Groh.
