Biographical Information[edit]

Hard-throwing Tom Glover played in the Negro Leagues for a decade. He debuted with the Washington Elite Giants in 1936 and went 6-2 for them in 1937. The club became the Baltimore Elite Giants in 1938 and Lefty was 0-1, followed by a 1-1 tally in 1939. On November 5, 1939, he threw the fourth and last no-hitter in California Winter League annals, following two by Walter Johnson and one by Tex Reichert. Glover blanked Babe Herman's White Kings, a club which included Herman, Bill Allington, Steve Mesner and Les Powers.

Glover jumped to the Mexican League for 1940, going 8-13 with a 5.30 ERA between three teams, with 109 walks in 180 innings. For the 1941 Monterrey Industrials, he had a 4-6, 4.27 record with 72 walks in 116 innings. He then returned to Baltimore, going 2-1 in 1942, 1-5 in 1943 and 4-3 in 1944. He split 1945 between Baltimore (1-1) and Monterrey (5-1, 5.01).

Glover started for the East in the 1945 East-West Game but was blown out of the game by the West in just the second inning. Neil Robinson, Alec Radcliffe and Archie Ware all connected safely off him (Ware was caught stealing), Quincy Trouppe walked and opposing pitcher Verdell Mathis singled as well. Bill Ricks relieved but Bill Williams greeted him with a triple, leaving Glover with four runs allowed in 1 2/3 innings. He took the decision in a 9-6 defeat for the East.
