Biographical Information[edit]

Tom Gillen played in both the Union Association and the National League, as well as for a couple of minor league teams. He is listed as the regular catcher for the Philadelphia Keystones in 1884. Although he appeared in only 27 games at catcher, that was more than anyone else.

Gillen was born in Philadelphia, PA, and played for the Philadelphia team at age 22. He died young at age 26.

He is not to be confused with another 19th Century player, Sam Gillen, who was also born in Pennsylvania and also played part of his career for a Philadelphia team.
