Biographical Information[edit]

Tom Bailey has pitched for the Australian national team.

Going to the US for college, Bailey led Wayland Baptist with 60 strikeouts in 2012 and threw the sixth no-hitter in school history. In 2013, he led the team in ERA (4.35) and strikeouts (64). He debuted in the Australian Baseball League in 2014-2015, going 0-1 with a 12.66 ERA. He improved to 4-2, 3.14 for the Perth Heat in 2015-2016. He finished 9th in ERA and just missed the top ten in strikeouts. He was with Australia for the 2016 Haarlem Baseball Week. He tied Steven Chambers for second in IP (11 2/3), was 5th in opponent average (.128), tied Shuya Kanno and Chambers for fourth in whiffs (8).

Bailey fell to 1-6, 4.97 in 2016-2017. He tied for the league lead in losses though his 62 strikeouts were second to Mark Hamburger. He was initially on Australia's designated pitcher pool for the 2017 World Baseball Classic but was activated late for round one when Liam Hendriks announced he would not pitch in the first round, focusing on MLB spring training instead. Bailey finished up Australia's lone win, relieving Todd Van Steensel with a 11-0 lead in the bottom of the 8th against China. He got Guiyuan Xu on a liner and Shunyi Yang on a grounder, walked Fujia Chu and gave up a Ray Chang single, but recovered to retire Weiqiang Meng to end it (due to the mercy rule, the game ended early).
