Biographical Information[edit]

Tim Leary was 1-1 with a 2.41 ERA for Team USA in the 1978 Amateur World Series, striking out 16 in 18 2/3 IP. He took the loss against the Cuban national team, the USA's lone defeat as they won the Silver Medal. He pitched for the US in the 1979 Pan American Games, when they failed to win a medal.

A top prospect with the Mets after being the second overall pick of the 1979 amateur draft (after Al Chambers), he made the team's starting rotation out of spring training in 1981, but was injured in his first career game, on April 12th, and had to leave the game after two hitless innings. He did not return to the majors until the last days of the 1983 season.
