Biographical Information

Tim Gradoville played in the minor leagues from 2002 to 2009 and appeared on the active roster without playing in a major league game, making him a phantom major leaguer. He is the cousin of fellow pro Chris Gradoville.

Gradoville played in 1999-2002 for Creighton University. He was picked in the 37th round of the 2002 amateur draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. Tim hit .267/.316/.327 for the 2002 GCL Phillies with 14 steals in 16 tries in 37 games. Despite being a catcher, he led the team in stolen bases. He made the Gulf Coast League All-Star team as the top backstop. In 2003, he batted only .197/.271/.218 with 13 steals in 18 tries for the Lakewood BlueClaws.

In 2004, Tim hit .145/.308/.258 in 24 games for Lakewood and .246/.298/.374 in 63 games for the Clearwater Threshers. Gradoville hit .205/.254/.266 with 73 strikeouts in 229 AB for the Reading Phillies and .263/.300/.263 in 9 games for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons.

Gradoville played in 2006 for Reading (.261/.312/.348, 34 K in 115 AB) and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (0 for 4, 3 K). He missed almost two months when his jaw was broken by a pitch. He won the Eugene L. Shirk Award for community service. He threw out 52.9% of attempted base-stealers to lead Eastern League catchers. He was on the Philadelphia Phillies active roster from September 6-23 without appearing in a game. He appeared in an episode of Court TV's Parco, PI that year as well.

In 2007, Gradoville played for Reading (.152/.234/.181, 43 K in 138 AB) and the Ottawa Lynx (3 for 11, 2 BB, 5 K). Through 2007, he has hit .213/.273/.279 in 359 minor league games.

In 2008, Gradoville was named a player/coach for the Reading Phillies where he started the season but did not bat. After a short stint in AAA with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (0 for 7), he was traded to the Texas Rangers for future considerations. He hit .194/.241/.241 in 35 games for the Frisco RoughRiders to conclude his career.

In December of 2008, Gradoville announced his retirement and was hired by the Philadelphia Phillies as the bullpen catcher.
