Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Thomas Harrington was the 36th overall selection of the 2022 amateur draft, by the Pittsburgh Pirates out of Campbell University in Competitive Balance Round A of the draft. He was the Pirates' second selection of the draft, after they had selected Termarr Johnson with the fourth overall pick, and the second highest draft choice in Campbell University history, after teammate Zach Neto had gone 13th overall in the same draft. He was a walk-on for the Fighting Camels but went 12-2, 2.53 in 15 starts in his sophomore season, to raise the interest of major league teams.

After signing with the Pirates for a signing bonus reported to be $2.05 million, he began his professional career in 2023 with the Bradenton Marauders of the Florida State League, going 4-1, 2.77 in 7 starts, then was promoted to the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the South Atlantic League. There he went 3-5, 3.87 in 18 starts to finish a combined 7-6, 3.53, with 146 strikeouts in 126 1/3 innings. he was named the Sally League Pitcher of the Month for June. In 2024, he continued to impress, starting off in AA with the Altoona Curve of the Southern League and finishing up with the Indianapolis Indians of the AAA International League, with also a one-game rehabilitation assignment with Bradenton in May. Overall, his record was 7-3, 2.61 in 22 games, with 115 strikeouts in 117 1/3 innings. He was the Pitcher of the Month in the Eastern League in July, and the Pitcher of the Week in the International League for the week of August 18th.
