Biographical Information[edit]
Teodulo Viray was a top Filipino pitcher of the 1940s and 1950s. In the first Asian Championship, in 1954, he threw a no-hitter against Taiwan (fanning 16) then held Japan to four hits in the finale. It was the only major Asian title for the Philippines national team as of 2018 (they have won the Asian Baseball Cup or East Asian Baseball Cup which powers like Japan, South Korea and Taiwan do not appear). Viray pitched against the New York Yankees when they visited the Philippines in 1955 but struggled in the 1955 Asian Championship. He later coached the University of Santo Tomas, helping them win numerous titles.
