Biographical Information[edit]

Teodoro Novas played in the Olympics and in the minors.

Novas backed up Felix Tejada at catcher for the Dominican Republic in the 1992 Olympics. He got into only two games briefly. He replaced Tejada in a 17-0 loss to the Japanese national team, striking out versus Kento Sugiyama and registering one putout. Against Taiwan, he came in late in a 11-0 loss. He singled off Chen-Jung Lo to finish with a .500 average for the Barcelona Games and allowed one steal, to Chung-Yi Huang. [1]

Novas was signed by the Seattle Mariners and hit .257 with two homers and 25 RBI for the 1993 DSL Mariners. [2] In 1994, he began being listed under his maternal surname Medrano, batting .297/.417/.466 with 29 runs in 40 games for the DSL Mariners, fielding .986 behind the dish. [3] He came stateside the next summer, going 1 for 3 for the Everett AquaSox and 0 for 3 for the AZL Mariners. For the 1996 Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, he put up a .203/.276/.337 batting line to end his playing career. He fielded .966 as the backup to Karl Thompson and threw out 31% of those who tried to steal.
