December 21: Today's featured birthday is that of Freddy Sanchez, who turns 47.
- 1972 - Catfish Hunter picks up the win and Gene Tenace drives in two to give the A's their first title since moving to Oakland as they win the 1972 World Series in seven games over the Reds.
- 1975 - The Reds top the Red Sox in Game 7 of one of the most dramatic World Series ever, the 1975 Fall Classic. Joe Morgan singles home Ken Griffey (pictured) with the winner in the 9th inning.
- 1978 - In Game 7 of the 1978 Japan Series, Hankyu Braves manager Toshiharu Ueda argues that a home run by Katsuo Osugi went foul. The game is delayed for an hour and 19 minutes during the dispute. Osugi's home run stands and helps the Yakult Swallows to their first Japan Series title.
- 1987 - Sachio Kinugasa homers in his final game, giving him 504 for his career, fourth in NPB history at that point. Kinugasa retires having 2,215 consecutive games played over a 17-year stretch. Kinugasa's world record will be broken later by Cal Ripken Jr.
- 2011 - Albert Pujols homer three times and sets a World Series record with 14 total bases while tying three other major Series records (hits, homers, RBI) as the Cardinals win Game 3 of the 2011 World Series, 16-7 over the Rangers.
