• 1972 - The Kansas City Royals pick up one of their long-term stars, Hal McRae, from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Richie Scheinblum (pictured) and Roger Nelson.
• 2000 - Ichiro Suzuki inks a three-year, $14 million deal with the Seattle Mariners; he will be named MVP next year, his first in the US.
