- 1948 - Lou Boudreau wins the 1948 American League Most Valuable Player Award.
- 1950 - Makoto Kozuru and Kaoru Betto are named the first MVPs in the Central League and Pacific League respectively.
- 1961 - The Chicago White Sox send Billy Pierce and Don Larsen to the San Francisco Giants for Eddie Fisher, Dom Zanni, Bob Farley and Verle Tiefenthaler.
- 1972 - The Kansas City Royals pick up one of their long-term stars, Hal McRae, from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Richie Scheinblum (pictured) and Roger Nelson.
- 2000 - Ichiro Suzuki inks a three-year, $14 million deal with the Seattle Mariners; he will be named MVP next year, his first in the US.
