- 1941 - 24-year-old Lou Boudreau is appointed manager of the Cleveland Indians, becoming the youngest major league manager of the 20th Century.
- 1949 - Ted Williams is named the 1949 American League MVP.
- 1957 - Hawaiian Yoshio Tanaka is hired as manager of the Hanshin Tigers. He is the first foreign manager in Nippon Pro Baseball history.
- 1958 - Ernie Banks wins the 1958 National League MVP, beating out Willie Mays.
- 2003 - The Chicago Cubs acquire Derrek Lee (pictured) from the Florida Marlins for Mike Nannini and Hee-seop Choi.
