• 1957 - Hawaiian Yoshio Tanaka is hired as manager of the Hanshin Tigers. He is the first foreign manager in Nippon Pro Baseball history.
• 1958 - Ernie Banks wins the 1958 National League MVP, beating out Willie Mays.
• 2003 - The Chicago Cubs acquire Derrek Lee (pictured) from the Florida Marlins for Mike Nannini and Hee-seop Choi.
