January 20: Today's featured birthday is that of Tim Kubinski, who turns 53.
- 1925 - Pirates shortstop Glenn Wright snares a liner from Jim Bottomley to begin an unassisted triple play, but the Pirates still lose, 10-9.
- 1957 - Herb Score is hit in the eye by a line drive from Gil McDougald. He had won 20 games the prior year and led the league in strikeouts the prior two seasons, but will miss the rest of the season and will never be as effective again.
- 1997 - The Seibu Lions break a 51-year-old Nippon Pro Baseball record by banging out 29 hits in a 21-0 rout of the Daiei Hawks.
- 2003 - Wayne Terwilliger becomes the oldest manager in minor league history at age 79. Terwilliger is the pilot of the Fort Worth Cats.
- 2010 - 20-year-old Starlin Castro drives in six runs for a post-1900 record by a player in his major league debut. Meanwhile, 47-year-old Jamie Moyer (pictured) becomes the oldest pitcher to throw a shutout in the majors and the first to do so in four different decades.
