November 28: Today's featured birthday is that of Corky Withrow, who turns 87.
- 1913 - Walter Johnson breaks Jack Coombs' record of 53 consecutive scoreless innings, reaching 56 before allowing a run. The record will stand for 55 years before Don Drysdale tops it.
- 1920 - Walter Johnson wins a 9-8 decision for his 300th career victory in the major leagues.
- 1967 - Mickey Mantle is the sixth player in major league history to smash 500 homers when he goes deep against slow-baller Stu Miller.
- 1988 - Jose Oquendo (pictured) becomes the first non-pitcher in 20 years to get a decision as he is the losing hurler in a 19-inning Braves 7-5 win over the Cardinals.
- 1994 - Paul Shuey strikes out four batters in an inning, the first rookie to do so in American League history. It is Shuey's second game in the major leagues.
