• 1925 - Rabbit Maranville breaks his leg sliding into third base in spring training. He will miss several months of the year but will return in spite of concerns that the injury would end his career.
• 1945 - One-legged pitcher Bert Shepard starts a try-out with the Washington Senators and will pitch one game that season for the club.
• 1974 - Ron Bryant is injured in a swimming pool accident. He will drop from 24 wins to 3.
• 1983 - Reigning Cy Young Award winner Pete Vuckovich is found to have a torn rotator cuff and will miss almost the whole season.
• 1990 - New Chunichi Dragons outfielder Benny Distefano (pictured) is ejected after punching catcher Tatsuo Omiya and throwing a bat at pitcher Yoshitaka Katori. Distefano had been plunked by a pitch from Katori.
