- 1903 - The New York Highlanders are approved as new members of the American League.
- 1921 - Kenesaw Mountain Landis suspends eight members of the Chicago White Sox for alleged involvement in throwing the 1919 World Series.
- 1951 - Major League Baseball owners vote 9-7 to replace Happy Chandler with Ford Frick; Chandler had been known primarily for helping integrate baseball.
- 1980 - Chuck Klein (pictured) and Tom Yawkey are elected to the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee.
- 2006 - The USA beats Japan, 4-3, in the 2006 World Baseball Classic, but is aided significantly by a highly controversial call by umpire Bob Davidson nullifying a run by Tsuyoshi Nishioka. Video evidence supports the initial call that Nishioka had scored legitimately.
