- 1950 - The Red Sox beat the Browns, 29-4, setting numerous major league offensive records.
- 1965 - The first amateur draft takes place. Rick Monday is the first player taken. Johnny Bench goes in the second round and Nolan Ryan in the tenth.
- 1968 - Howie Bedell hits a sacrifice fly to end Don Drysdale's then-record scoreless inning streak at 58 innings.
- 1996 - With two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning, Louisiana State University 2B Warren Morris (pictured) hits a two-run homer to beat the University of Miami, 9-8, to end the College World Series in dramatic fashion.
- 2012 - After Kevin Millwood has to leave the game after six no-hit innings because of an injury, five members of the Mariners bullpen continue to blank the Dodgers, completing the first combined no-hitter by an American League team since 1991.
