March 7: Today's featured birthday is that of Jim Howarth, who turns 78.
- 1916 - The Indians put numbers on their uniforms to match those on a scorecard and help identify them, a first. Jack Graney is the first player to bat with a number on his sleeve in the 20th Century.
- 1970 - Frank Robinson (pictured) hits two grand slams in a game, the seventh player to do so in major league history.
- 1977 - Pete Vuckovich throws the first shutout in the history of the Toronto Blue Jays.
- 1985 - Clearwater Phillies organist Wilbur Snapp is ejected by umpire Kevin O'Connor after playing "Three Blind Mice" following a controversial call.
- 1999 - Injured Pirates shortstop Pat Meares participates in a promotion in Milwaukee, running a race dressed as a bratwurst and winning. It is the most memorable accomplishment the high-priced free agent will have for Pittsburgh.
