Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Jim Howarth played several seasons in the majors.

After attending Mississippi State University, Howarth was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the eighth round of the 1968 amateur draft. He made his pro debut that summer with the Decatur Commodores, posting a .293 batting average in 51 games. He hit .363 for the Phoenix Giants in 1971 and earned a September call-up to the majors. He got into 7 games for San Francisco that fall, going 3-for-13 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

Howarth hit .235 in 74 games for the Giants in 1972 as a backup outfielder and pinch hitter. The following summer, his average dipped to .200. He struggled with a knee injury in 1974, appearing in just 6 games for San Francisco, and he ended his baseball career after that season.

Following his playing days, Howarth worked in the banking industry for many years.
