- 1908 - John McFarlan of the Helena Hellions has a perfect game with one batter to go, but the last hitter refuses to bat, forcing a forfeit and costing McFarlan the perfecto.
- 1909 - A frustrated Harry Pulliam, president of the National League, commits suicide in his hotel room.
- 1928 - Johnny Hodapp has two hits in the 2nd inning and again in the 6th, the first player in American League history to have two two-hit innings in the same game.
- 1986 - Sparky Anderson (pictured) wins his 600th game as an American League manager. He becomes the first manager to reach 600 wins in both circuits.
- 2002 - The Phillies send star 3B Scott Rolen and minor leaguer Doug Nickle to the Cardinals for IF Placido Polanco, P Bud Smith and P Mike Timlin. Rolen will contribute significantly in St. Louis, while Polanco will be the best part of the deal for Philly.
