John McFarlan
John McFarlan
- Bats unknown, Throws unknown
Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher John McFarlan played one season at the outer reaches of the minor league system, with the Helena Hellions of the Arkansas State League in 1908. He went 9-5 and hit .185. He is still known for one strange incident in an otherwise unremarkable career: on July 29th, he retired 26 straight batters before the last one refused to come to bat, denying him a perfect game. As a result, the game was declared a 9-0 forfeit. It seems that the game was against the Pine Bluff Pine Nuts and the score at the time of the forfeit was 6-0 in Helena's favor. The name of the cowardly batter does not seem to have been retained by anyone.
McFarlan is called McFarland in some sources.
