January 19: Today's featured birthday is that of Shawn Tolleson, who turns 37.
- 1909 - In the American Association, Irv Young of the Minneapolis Millers throws a four-hitter against the Milwaukee Brewers and hits a homer in a 1-0 win, then comes back in the nightcap to toss a one-hitter for two shutouts in a day.
- 1943 - The first All-Star Game to be played under lights ends in a 5-3 NL win. Vince DiMaggio singles, triples and homers for the Senior Circuit in the 1943 All-Star Game.
- 1963 - Early Wynn wins his 300th and final game in the major leagues. It was his eighth try for 300.
- 1971 - In the only All-Star Game win for the AL between 1962 and 1983, six future Hall of Famers go deep: Johnny Bench, Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Reggie Jackson, Frank Robinson and Harmon Killebrew.
- 1982 - In the first All-Star Game played outside of the USA, at Stade Olympique, the NL wins for the 11th consecutive time, their best streak ever. A two-run homer by Dave Concepcion (pictured) against Dennis Eckersley in the 2nd is the key blow.
