- 1972 - Sandy Koufax, Yogi Berra and Early Wynn are elected to the Hall of Fame; at 36, Koufax is the youngest inductee ever.
- 1977 - Ernie Banks is elected to the Hall of Fame.
- 1988 - Shigeo Nagashima (pictured), Masaichi Kaneda, Kaoru Betto and Yukio Nishimoto are inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame.
- 1997 - Ivan Rodriguez signs a one-year, $6.65 million deal, setting a new record for the biggest one-year contract in MLB history.
