- 1900 - The New York Giants make one of the great deals in baseball history, sending a washed-up Amos Rusie to the Cincinnati Reds for a young Christy Mathewson.
- 1923 - The Philadelphia Athletics acquire Al Simmons (pictured) from the minor league Milwaukee Brewers for three players, securing a key element of their 1929-1931 dynasty.
- 1980 - Dave Winfield signs a ten-year, $16 million deal with the New York Yankees to become the highest-paid athlete.
- 1997 - The Florida Marlins trade Kevin Brown to the San Diego Padres for Rafael Medina, Derrek Lee and Steve Hoff as part of their post-World Series fire sale.
