January 29: Today's featured birthday is that of Sergio Ferrer, who turns 74.
- 1930 - After Rabbit Maranville is caught stealing to end the Braves' half of the 4th inning, he throws a temper tantrum. Phillies 2B Fresco Thompson tires of his antics and picks up Maranville, carrying him over to his spot at shortstop.
- 1966 - Robin Roberts becomes the only pitcher to have wins against the Atlanta Braves, Milwaukee Braves and Boston Braves.
- 1972 - Jim Barr (pictured) retires 20 batters to give him 41 consecutive outs, a new major league record which will be broken 37 years later by Mark Buehrle.
- 1985 - Don Baylor breaks Minnie Minoso's American League record for times hit by pitch when he is plunked for the 190th time.
- 2006 - Kazuhiro Kiyohara sets Nippon Pro Baseball career records in sayonara home runs (12) and walk-off hits (20) with a game-ending homer against the Seibu Lions.
