December 19: Today's featured birthday is that of Chito Martinez, who turns 59.
- 1900 - Rube Waddell wins both ends of a doubleheader for the Milwaukee Brewers, topping the Chicago White Stockings in 17 innings then coming back for 5 more in the nightcap.
- 1921 - Ty Cobb raps his 3,000th hit in the majors. At age 34, he is the youngest to that plateau.
- 1951 - Eddie Gaedel (pictured) becomes the shortest player in baseball history. He draws a walk from Bob Cain before Jim Delsing pinch-runs for him. It is deemed one of Bill Veeck's most prominent stunts.
- 1958 - The Douglas Copper Kings get home runs from all nine players, including pitcher-manager Bob Clear, in a 22-8 win in the Arizona-Mexico League.
- 1992 - The Boone family becomes the first to have three generations play in the majors as Bret Boone debuts, following grandfather Ray Boone and father Bob Boone.
