- 1915 - Casey Stengel hits the first home run in the history of Ebbets Field, doing so in an exhibition game.
- 1925 - Babe Ruth collapses at a railroad station in Asheville, NC and will be out until late May following an operation for an ulcer.
- 1958 - Shigeo Nagashima, considered by some to be Japan's greatest ballplayer, debuts in inauspicious fashion. He whiffs four times in a row against superstar Masaichi Kaneda.
- 1993 - Jeff Conine goes 4-for-4 and Charlie Hough (pictured) gets the win in the first game in Florida Marlins history. In the first game by the Colorado Rockies, they lose 3-0 against Dwight Gooden.
- 2006 - Kimiyasu Kudoh wins his 20th game after his 40th birthday, setting a new Nippon Pro Baseball record. Tadashi Wakabayashi had held the mark previously.
