November 17: Today's featured birthday is that of Paul Sorrento, who turns 59.
- 1952 - In an exhibition game in Denver, CO, Monte Irvin breaks his ankle sliding into third base. He will miss much of the season.
- 1976 - In a major trade, the Baltimore Orioles acquire Reggie Jackson and Ken Holtzman from the Oakland Athletics for Don Baylor, Mike Torrez and Paul Mitchell.
- 1996 - For the first time in his 11-season MLB career, Cecil Fielder steals a base. His stretch of 1,096 games without a steal is the longest to start a career.
- 1998 - Ellis Burks (pictured) goes deep in Bank One Ballpark. It is the record 33rd major league stadium he has homered in.
- 2001 - Roger Clemens breaks Walter Johnson's career American League strikeout record of 3,508. Joe Randa is the victim of the record-setting whiff.
