Biographical Information[edit]
"Some of the things you got away with in high school - like the high fastballs that struck out batters - didn't work in the majors... So it was a lot harder. I didn't do too bad in the minor leagues. But for whatever reason, they just never called me back." - John Bohnet
John Bohnet had one chance in the major leagues at age 21. He pitched 3 games for the Cleveland Indians in May 1982 when Bert Blyleven was injured. He was a first-round draft pick in 1979 out of Hogan High School. He was taking a history test when he was told that he had been drafted, and for the rest of the day he dealt with the media. As a high school senior, he had a 0.69 ERA as a power pitcher. He was released from the minors during spring training in 1985. He became a UPS driver for many years, and, as of 2002, served as an instructor for Line Drive Sports, also owning his own engraving and awards store. He received offers to play in Mexico but turned them down.
