November 22: Today's featured birthday is that of Rich McKinney, who turns 78.
- 1910 - William Howard Taft (pictured) becomes the first president to throw out the first ball on Opening Day. In a duel of future Hall of Famers, Walter Johnson outperforms Eddie Plank with a 3-0 victory.
- 1925 - The Cleveland Indians set the Opening Day record with 21 runs, thanks in part to four errors by George Sisler of the St. Louis Browns.
- 1955 - The New York Yankees become one of the last major league teams to integrate when Elston Howard makes his debut, driving in a run in a 8-4 defeat.
- 1969 - Mack Jones hits the first major league home run outside of the USA when he homers in the first home game for the Montréal Expos. Dan McGinn gets the win.
- 1990 - In the first game in which two Cy Young Award winners factor into the victory, Bret Saberhagen wins one for the Kansas City Royals while Mark Davis is credited with the save.
