Biographical Information[edit]
Takehiko Kumagami joined the Senators club in 1946, and he hit .255/.298/.366 in that season. He was 6th in triples in the Japanese Professional Baseball League, tied with Takeshi Doigaki. He and Taju Hitokoto were the first rookie starter battery in team history, and it would be 76 years later that another rookie battery to start in a game in the Tokyu/Toei/Nippon-Ham team history (Haruki Hosono and Yuya Shinto). Kumagami played 77 games with a .226/.271/.373 batting line in 1947, but he was 3-for-23 in 1948 then he was released. He joined the Taiyo Whales in 1950, but he didn't play any games with the big club.
Overall, Kumagami hit .240/.282/.359 with 143 hits and 8 homers in 3 seasons in NPB.
